Re: Alpha specs

I got the performance specs from Core Microsystems web site. They didn't cite a source. I like your numbers better, so let's recalc with an AlphaServer 8200 5/440, which is the same CPU speed as the 433 MHz system from Core Microsystems:

Alpha = $6200/16.2SPECfp = $383/SPECfp
Alpha = $6200/13.6SPECint = $456/SPECint

PPro = $2500/6.7SPECfp = $373/SPECfp
PPro = $2500/8.1SPECint = $309/SPECint

So, you get a much better deal on the PPro for integer performance and the floating point is about the same.

Core also told me that I can spend another $300 to get a PPro motherboard that's upgradable to a dual processor system. So, the total MB cost would be $4000. They said the second CPU would add 70% better performance for apps like Autodesk 3D Studio Max that make good use of the second CPU.

I'll call Core Microsystems on Monday and see if they sell lower speed Alpha motherboards that cost about $4000, so we can compare the performance of systems with comparable cost.
