Victor,

It hardly has any impact on Apple. Java is a language (I prefer
Microsoft's treating it as a language) used on the Internet application.
It's similar to CGI, Perl, HTML, etc. The difference between Java
and c/c++ is Java simplifies C++. Java has no pointer, struct, but
has multi-thread capability. Java is good for NC, where little
maintenance is required. Java's weak point is its speed since they
don't have serious compiler to make it become an efficient load
module. The reason for Java to be compatible with any OS is
because they create a virtual machine in which all codes are
translated into the OS you use.

Nothing is going to impact the balance between two groups, IBM/Sun
and Microsoft/Apple/HP.

Phil
