Pat:Thx for that link regarding ATM . There is no doubt that the existing T1/T3 Frame cloud is slowly being replaced by an ATM equivalent. However the speed of that transition depends on the last mile traffic.

There is a need to get that traffic moving and increase its volume.
Multimedia was supposed to increase volume. In fairness Convergence technology has the means to do that. However because of cost and speed constraints on the last mile, Multimedia traffic growth has been slow.

It would seem that the future growth of ATM is closely linked to the
speed at which the last mile problem can be solved. Hybrid coax, ADSL,RDSL etc are excellent solutions but have run into Consumer resistance. There is an urgent need to find a cost effective solution.

Incidentally, theres Money to be made in Fibre too. There is an urgent need for an Optical switch. I hope some garage Enthusiast will get cracking.!
