Mining drilling results Wed 1 Apr 98 Rupert Resources Ltd RUP Shares issued 7,218,362 Mar 31 close $3.30 Wed 1 Apr 98 News Release Mr D. Neil Briggs reports Rupert Resources has received diamond counts from drillhole Crown-3 at the Crown diamond mine project in South Africa. These results, which substantiate previously reported results from drillhole Crown-1, are detailed below. Results from drillhole Crown-4 in the Satellite pipe are expected soon. Drillhole Crown-6 is drilling in the Main pipe having passed through the Satellite pipe; initial samples from this drillhole will be submitted for analysis within the next week.

TOTAL 271 80 67.3 19.9 (x) Macros are those diamonds for which one dimension exceeds 0.5 mm. Drillhole Crown-3 was drilled to a total depth of 977.4 metres at an azimuth of 165 degrees and an angle of 55 degrees from horizontal. From 476.3 to 977.4 metres the hole intersected a total of 501.1 metres of kimberlite and kimberlite breccia with included rafts of country rock. This represents a horizontal width of about 270 metres and a vertical extent of about 420 metres. The major types of kimberlite encountered in this drillhole are all very similar with a micaceous kimberlite matrix and are consistent with the interpretation that they are parts of a single intrusive phase. They differ predominantly in the abundance of country rock xenoliths (CRX) and are described as follows: K2 quite pure hypabyssal kimberlite with 0 to 15% CRX but usually less than 10% CRX K4 fairly pure hypabyssal kimberlite with up to 40% CRX but usually 10 to 20% CRX K6 impure hypabyssal kimberlite to kimberlite breccia with 40 to 75% CRX and an average of 50 to 65% CRX KBX impure kimberlite breccia marginal to the pipe with 75 to 90% CRX >From surface to a depth of about 600 metres the kimberlite is mostly K6 with a relatively large proportion of country rock fragments, this material is similar to the 4.5 million tonnes previously mined from the upper portion of the Main pipe which had an inferred in-situ grade of about 30 carats per hundred tonnes (cpht). The kimberlite below 600 metres has fewer country rock xenoliths and much higher diamond counts, it is therefore expected to have an in-situ grade considerably higher than 30 cpht. Samples, estimated to be 20 to 25 kilograms each, of split drillcore were placed in buckets at the drillsite, sealed, taken to Johannesburg, shipped air freight to Toronto and forwarded to Lakefield Research in Lakefield, Ontario. Lakefield Research carried out its standard method of diamond recovery by caustic dissolution followed by microscopic examination, measuring and weighing of the recovered diamonds. Extensive internal quality control procedures are followed by Lakefield. Petrographic examinations and mineral chemistry studies will be performed on portions of the retained drillcore. The balance of the drillcore will be retained on site for future reference and check analyses as necessary. Initial check analyses of selected drillcore will be carried out by De Beers. Drillhole Crown-6 is drilling Main pipe kimberlite at a 669.2 metres downhole. (c) Copyright 1998 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com |
