You made a simple math/accounting mistake. I assumed somebody would correct you, but I haven't seen it yet (but I still have 90+ posts to catch up on), so I decided to post.
Your problem is that you were calculating a backwards-looking post merger EPS for the combined company using the current share total of FAMH of 40 mil. FAMH didn't have 40 mil shares outstanding in 1997. Redo your calculations and you will get something close to 33 cents per share. Pretty close to 36 cents, but we are using estimates and would therefore expect a small difference.
I anticipate that you will direct me to the FAMH press release which talked about the merger calculations. In there somewhere, is the year "1998" and the numbers 40 mil, 11 mil, etc. Some people may have been confused because the press release switches between 1997 and 1998 pretty quickly, and does not provide full explanations of some things. I think there also was a typo in the PR (1998 was stated in one case when 1997 should have been used) that was later fixed verbally by FAMH.
As I said, redo your calculations using the correct numbers, which will show an EPS of close to 36 cents. Please let us all know what you get.
