I can see why you didn't understand my comment. It was one of those well constructed sentences we all live to regret.

My point was, we see a slow down due to inventory correction as BTO causes adjustments. Well, we all hope to see this end soon and component demand (disk drives, etc) come roaring back to life.

But, what happens if inventory sorts itself out just in time for buyers to hold off on new systems as they wait for the next gen OS? If you want a new computer, you must need it pretty bad to buy it a month or 2 in advance of a operating system change.

I bought a computer from Gateway and took delivery about a month before Win 95 was out. I had 3 devices that wouldn't take the conversion. I had to spend 3+ hours on the phone to Gateway getting it straightened out. I'm not sure I ever got it exactly right. I won't do that again. In fact, I would think Gateway lost a lot of profit stepping all these systems through conversion.

So, as we wait for the inventory question to be resolved, how does this play against what should be a short term drop in PC sales as people anticipate a OS change over?

Regards,

Mar
