Some long awaited news: UDLP-GSD Selects CMstat V5 System for Multi-Site Configuration Management
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1998--United Defense Limited Partnership-Ground Systems Division, a leading supplier of land-based military systems, has selected the CMstat V5 Configuration Management System to replace its legacy CM systems at its York, Pa. and San Jose, Calif. facilities. UDLP's CM systems manage the configuration of vehicle products, providing historical information on all design changes. "The new system offers more capabilities and better fits the division's needs," said Dave Whitmore, Engineering Services Manager for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle program.
The need for a new system became apparent in 1994 when United Defense was first formed. Merging separate companies into one, UDLP learned that the York and San Jose facilities used different CM systems. "A joint San Jose/York team concluded that neither of the existing systems could perform the consolidated functions that were needed," said Whitmore. "Having a single CM system consistent with GSD's strategic direction is the way to go."
UDLP selected CMstat for its superior CM capabilities and its ability to interface with key business and future manufacturing systems. The CMstat V5 system will reduce recurring IS costs, providing easier access and reporting of product information.
CMstat's selection was also based on its reputation with the Paladin Production Division, which has a strategic business alliance with CMstat's parent company-VSE Corp. "The new system is compatible with DoD systems and interfaces with the government system-TD/CMS. The Army uses TD/CMS for its CM system needs," said Whitmore. "With the new system, design changes will continue to be sent to our customer in electronic format." |
