Tony,

when it comes to CPU's, we will never compromise reliability

I feel an obligation to do you a favor and let you in on a secret:
You are fighting a war that doesn't exist. It's all in your head.

For the second time, the CPU is just about the most reliable part of the computer. Let me give you some hints about things that fail a lot more frequently:

Power supplies
fans,
floppy drives
hard drives
tape drives
keyboards
mice
power switches
network cards
SIMMs lose contact
batteries and CMOS that store your setup
Zip drives
Jazz drives

On software side, things that cause problems frequently (far more frequently than hardware):
DOS
Windows 3.1
Windows 95
Windows NT
drivers to control the hardware devices
shrink wrapped software
custom developed software
shareware
freeware
Utilities, setup, shortcuts that your MIS makes
your own utilities, shortcuts, and changes to setup

Things that fail very infrequently (if ever):
CPUs
chipsets
RAM
