And to think, this is JUST the beginning...
Of course, I'm completely tickled about CKFR, XCIT, and SEEK today. And it's oh so darned easy to love the whole e-commerce sector on a day as sweet as today.
But, as Mr. Lindt knows better than I, there aren't many opportunities in an investor's lifetime to place his or her funds on the side of a dramatic sea-change in the nature of commerce. And, yet, without exaggeration, here is that opportunity.
On various threads where I've held forth on this subject, there's always someone who pops up with the idea that e-commerce is a passing fancy, an unproved commodity, just so much cyber-hype. And, on occasions, I still run into clients who are far from "getting it" yet. But, at the risk of preaching to the choir here, this is so real and so utterly dramatic that it ALMOST defies hyping. Almost.
And, to think, that a scant three or four years ago, this wasn't happening... or it was just being dreamed of by pioneering companies. My gosh.
And there are so many ways to tap into this as an investor. Let's talk about a relatively obscure company called HNC Software, for a moment, symbol HNCS. Though not a high flyer by any means, the company is interesting. It owns Aptex Software which supplies "user profiling" software to companies like XCIT and SEEK and, most recently, a singles web site called, I think, goodcompany. com. Aptex is a prime supplier to e-commerce folks. And new software companies are coming online, seemingly by the day, with new tools to make e-commerce engines and configurators faster, more intuitive, etc. What a wonderful time!
