Because of its limited L1 and L2 cache size, the chip is rumored to be only 1.7x faster than a 200MHz 604e. If we assume that a 604e is about the same speed as a PPro, then by the time the Exponential chip is released in 6 months or so, Intel may have had time to release their next generation of PPro chips (Klamath, and Deschutes later in the year). The release of the exponential chip is good for the PC industry - since it will require Intel to release faster versions of their chips on a more rapid schedule (but this may decrease their profit margins a bit - (only a bit since Exponential is able to only manufacture 100k or so chips per year)).
