A final April Fools post (for this year)
This was on the AOL board earlier today ... lighten up people!
Nikon Announces Purchase from Komatsu LLG
TOYKO--(PR Newswire)--April 1, 1998. Nikon International (NASDAQ NM:NINOY), the world's leading supplier of deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography equipment used by IC manufacturers such as IBM and Intel, today announced the order of 75 lasers from Komatsu LLG. These lasers create "deep ultra-violet" light used to manufacture computer chips. The small wavelength light (248 namometers, about 1/50 the width of a human hair) is seen as increasingly important in the drive to manufacture more powerful microprocessors.
"We have been examining the new Komatsu model XT-640B laser for over six months on a pilot production line," said Ishakaru Kami, CEO and President of Nikon. "We are pleased with the power output, which is much superior to any other laser available on the market today. Our tests show that the maintenance costs and reliability of the 640B will also result in increased cost savings."
Rumors have abounded over the past year about possible competition from Komatsu -- known primarily as the manufacturer of heavy construction equipment -- with Cymer, Inc. (NASDAQ NM:CYMI), the leading supplier of such lasers. (cont'd below) - - - - - -
