Canadian papers reported today that the Government of Canada is close to announcing an agreement to buy 4 British submarines that have diesel engines and are considered surplus to UK's needs. If this occurs we may hear that the Government of Canada will contract Ballard to build 4 fuel cell engines to replace the diesels. The fuel cell engine has the advantage of being very quiet and having a low heat signature without the need to surface periodically like the diesels. I know Peter Dumbrille (sp?) has posted to this thread before and has lots of knowledge in this area. Peter, do you have any insight on this? I know Ballard has previously built a sub-scale fuel cell engine for the Canadian Navy, going back several years. Regards
