Albert - Re:"amd needs to do is to provide an alternative solution..."

AMD already provides an alternative solution - 486 devices and slow K5 devices. These do not sell in very significant volumes. Hence, they are bringing very little revenue to AMD.

Therefore, something more than " an alternative solution" seems necessary for AMD to increase sales.

Re:"Let us not forget all the manufacturers who are fed up with intel. "."

Please let me know which ones these are. The largest ones (Dell, NEC, Toshiba, Compaq, Gateway 2000, ACER, even IBM PC) have set record sales and revenue goals for PCs for the past 2 quarters. The bulk of the CPUs come from Intel.

IBM even makes a direct competitive chip, the Cyrix 6x86, and chooses not to use these in any significant volume.

So, who is fed up?

Paul
