Your example is correct but misleading. Market makers often on their own and often at the instruction of their clients do not show all of what they are in the market for at a given price. For example,
if I saw the market you quoted, and I had 100,000 shares for sale,
I would not show 100,000 and make the market look weak - I'd show 5,000. Therefore, it is the sizes combined with the trading action
that tell you what is going on. In my situation you would see a lot more trades at 35 than 19,000 and the price would not budge.
