Kurt, just heard on the news about Corel reaching a deal with the Ontario Education minister. All primary and secondary schools will have Corel products like Wordperfect, etc... They cited reasons such as simplicity of use and functionality. Also, they mentioned something about not being able to run on Macs or being slow on older computers meaning new upgraded computers will be purchased eventually. The government must have gotten a "sweet deal". There has been no disclosure of the amount of the deal.

I thought before that the best way Corel could ensure their future would be to get their products into schools (even for free). When children grow up, they will prefer Corel products because they are used to them and thus will influence the software purchases of the company's they work for. The children will also affect their parents purchases in the short term because parents will buy what the kids are used to so the kids can "teach them" (heh heh). Sounds like a good plan for both the short and long term.
