News [Updated April 3rd] Eddie George, the Bank of England Governor, last night held out hope to hard-pressed exporters that the pound would fall later this year when financial markets wake up to the fact that the euro will be a strong currency "Activity is now picking up on the Continent. And people will come to appreciate both the strength of the protection of the ECB's independence written into its statutes, and the determination of the ECB's Governing Council to establish the Euro from the beginning as a sound and credible currency. This could start to happen quite quickly once the appointments of the ECB Executive Board have been made and the ECB is established." The deadline for these appointments is May.
