The ZE debacle...
SEOUL, April 3 (Reuters) - The disastrous experience of South Korean conglomerate LG with its U.S. acquisition Zenith Electronics (ZE - news) has focused attention on the red ink flooding through the overseas investments of the chaebols.

The crunch will come when Korean business groups begin including affiliates in their financial statements, as next year they must, analysts said.

''Many are concerned how much garbage will surface if Korean firms issue combine financial statements with their affiliates,'' said Lee Keunmo, research head at ING Barings. ''Korean companies, having jumped on the band wagon and gone abroad, are expected to face the same fate as LG had in Zenith.''
