Alcatel sues Motorola alleging patent infringement
April 2, 1998 08:41 PM
WILMINGTON, Del., April 2 (Reuters) -The Alcatel NV unit of Alcatel Alsthom ALA <javascript:getQuoteDetail('ALA')>and Alcatel CIT sued Motorola Inc MOT <javascript:getQuoteDetail('MOT')>for alleged infringement of three Alcatel patents related to mobile radio systems.
In papers filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Delaware and made available to Reuters Thursday, the Alacatel plaintiffs claim that Motorola's "Dimetra" system, including its base transceiver stations and mobile cellular units, is an example of a Motorola digital communications system which allegedly infringes the patents.
The patents are: '072 for a "Method, terminal and infrastructure for sharing channels by controlled time slot stealing in a multiplexed radio system"; '075 for a "Method and system for controlling the power at which an access packet is sent by a mobile in a mobile radio system; and '870 for a "Dummy burst structure in a cellular digital radio communications system using the TDMA principle, and a base station for generating such a structure."
Alcatel Alsthom is a leading French manufacturer of telecommunications equipment.
According to court papers, Alcatel seeks a court order declaring its patents valid; an injunction barring Motorola from further alleged infringement; and unspecified damages.
No one at Motorola's Schaumburg, Illinois offices could be reached for comment.
