OK, Jean, here goes:

fla-get \flah-jay\ verb [fr. Med. French] 1: To think you are better than everyone else, especially Americans 2 : To eat snails 3 : (pejorative) To crudely denigrate Americans while under the influence of bad snails.

(Apparently the third meaning is a pejorative since even the French do not appreciate crude insults.)

Also, although you didn't ask for it, a couple of anagram possibilities:

Get Alf -- From flaget's previous career leading the charge against that lovable alien who lived in harmony with actor Max Wright and the rest of that TV family.

A.F. Gelt -- Possible flaget's true identity, Aloysius Francis Gelt, the confused and bitter offspring of an Irish Catholic mother and a German Jewish father.
