You are not alone in this situation, of course. I've been neither long nor short the market as a whole since 1990 when I lost a bunch of money on S&P puts.

That taught me not to speculate more then I was willing to lose.

The last time I was solidly long was November 1987!

Still, interesting investment situations continue to occur, such as hedges in Closed End Funds or obscure deals like EMITF (see SI thread).

I laughed at your post to "pass pass" today on TLK. You made it so complicated for him, he'll probably never ask again.
