You understand completely! Let's pretend DCTC gets bought out for the equivalence of $10 worth of SMTK shares(don't be fooled into thinking we are gonna get an all cash offer). That is a huge bonanza for many of us. Let's say I don't care to stay invested in SMTK. While waiting for my SMTK shares to hit my account or become unresrticted, I want to "fix" my DCTC winnings at $10. I would short SMTK for the # of shares I will recieve from my DCTC holdings. Now I don't have to worry about SMTK price falling. I also lose my chance to be further greedy if SMTK were to rise. Don't you think most folks would be happy with $10???? Now switch the whole scenario around with DCTC being the buyer and let's say CCHI is the seller making an 8 or 10 bagger on the deal. Don't you think CCHI folks are still shorting??? What about other deals DCTC has made? Are there Muller shareholders in the same boat? I don't know the answer to the Muller question but I would be interested in knowing so we can assess just what volume of shorting we may be up against.
Did this help?
