David:

I have had 3 tours of Hamilton Nov 96, Mar 97, and Feb 98 when the new evaporator had been installed. I hope to go again when the other plant has been in production. The new building addition for the 2nd plant was up and getting ready to install tankage. The new evaporator had been working for 5 days and the pellets were moving down the line. The new evaporator is a beautiful piece of gleaming stainless steel, they were still finishing off the install, though it was working by reading the rich amount of instrumentation.

The process is the same for food wastes as sludge as the bacteria are the same and work at the same temperatures and the product really is the remains of the bacteria which have eaten all of the input. I believe Cliff Maki covered this some time back. However the 2 different streams are kept separate, even through the drying stages. But either plant can handle either input.

I dont't know details of handling fresh manure, I suggest calling Ed Kroeker at (905) 450 8866 but it would surprise me if process needs to be changed much. There may be more water content. Certainly permitting requirements, which may not always be logical, would have to be followed.

By the way, the aromas in the plant itself were very mild, not at all unpleasant and resembled bakery and beer brewing smells and you only noticed it when first going into plant. There was no smell outside.
Because there can be more odors with sludge (likely only at the input stage) the air incinerator/odor combuster will be replaced with a
larger unit easily handling both streams.

I originally got into TTRIF before first plant visit, but seeing is definitely believing and have gone from a small number of shares to a signifigant portion of my portfolio.

I hope this satisfies your questions.

regards, Sheldon
