But you see this is whre the confusion comes. Since the new computing model is server centric, backups and worrisom of theft and such events are no longer valid. Wether you use a PC or NC you will be able to run most essential software. However with both being at the same price (more or less) you now have the luxury of getting the most for your money! It is sort of like a big luxury Mercedes which has the feature where each passenger can control the air temperature on his/her side of the car! Now forget about how idiotic this feature is, Benz gets to charge an extra $1000 for this feature! On the other hand there is a luxiory model of Volvo that does not have this feature but has the same price tag as that Mercedez. Given a choice between the two most buyers would (and in fact will) end up buying the Mercedez! Why? First of all it has a better name brand (in case of PCs it would be CPQ, DELL, etc.), and second of all they figure hey I am getting this extra feature with the same money I have to pay to buy the Volvo! Eventhough they never get to use the idiotic feature in the first place anyway, and eventhough Volvo may in fact be a stronger and better car!

Similarly most buyers will rather buy a PC than a NC (if they both are selling at or about the same price) eventhough with the PC they will get no more than if they use a NC when it comes to satisfying 80% of their computing essentials and needs (thanks to the new server centric computing model)! It is as simple as getting the most with your money (psychologically anyway!)!

As for Sun, it does not matter wether NC is a success or not, the important part is the computing model and that is what Sun is after and is most concerned with. Sun's bread and butter is and will continue to be in its powerful servers.

And of course this is just my opinion!
