ole 49r, Your use of the word "chilling" at the end of that post should be a tipoff and indicates that your reading is for the potential for some serious negative outcome. There are some parallels in Asia in the period leading up to World war II with Japan perceiving China as a developing economic threat and moving into Manchuria, with an evolving China today and an economically troubled Japan.
