Here is the news clip from CBS Marketwatch. In my opinion a reasonable estimate is always better than some out-of-this-world estimate, reminds me of what the analysts did to tech stocks last year with their crazy estimates.

As for Nile's comment about Compaq's aggressive price cut is going to
hurt DELL,I like to say if anybody is going to get hurt here it will be COMPAQ and not DELL as they can cut prices to meet any challenges from CPQ without loosing money.I thought by now everybody would know that,oh well i guess not.<gg>

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) --ÿTechnology issues were mixed Friday asÿ communications-related stocks strengthened and PC hardware-relatedÿ issues waned. Computer stocks may weaken further Monday after ÿ BancAmerica Robertson Stephens lowered its earnings estimate for Dell Computer.

Analyst Dan Niles cut his fiscal 1999 earnings estimate to $1.65 a share from $1.78 and his fiscal 2000 estimate to $2.08 from $2.25. Niles expects aggressive pricing by Compaq to put pressure on Dell, previously considered the last bastion of stability in the PC industry.............

PS: BTW,I believe a lot of analysts have lowered their estimates
on almost all tech stocks since the Asian flu hit the market,so they
are not the first one to do so and I don't think it would have a precipitous effect on the stock or on the sector in general.
