George is right about the various characteristics of kimberlite, the fact is that every kimberlite is different and characterizing kimberlite is often very difficult. It has many different colours and appearances. Orangeite, or Type II kimberlite is only found in Africa to date. They will find some elsewhere, its only a matter of time. Generally kimberlite near the surface is weathered and it is extremely friable while kimberlite at a depth of only a few feet is fairly hard unless there has been a lot of groundwater penetration. The colour of a typical kimberlite seems to changes from a bluish colour to a greenish colour once its expose to the atmosphere. Permafrost likely restricts groundwater penetration at depth at Snap.

Also a dike of any size is as good or better than a pipe if diamond yields are sufficient. The cost of mining a dike in the NWT is an issue that we need to explore in more detail. I suggest visiting the following site for information on dikes verses pipes:

southernera.com

Windspear is on the verge of announcing that they have a minable resource and once established it will provide a lucrative cash flow that will allow them to search for any pipe that might exist in the area at their leisure (and to do considerable exploration anywhere else they choose). They are more likely to extend the dikes at Snap Lake for considerable more distance than what they have already and depending on how easy it is to get at, this will likely prove to be as profitable or more profitable than any pipe that they might find particularly if it is located in the middle of the lake. Anyone waiting for a pipe may well miss the bus.
