Jules. Re: Barrett's optimistic outlook. Why would anyone want to talk about good news and Intel in the same breath, when they can pile on with the other naysayers? Schadenfreude is so so satisfying; people can't resist.

My view on the 1Q downturn and it's just an educated hunch, is that we are in the midst of a sizeable inventory shrink in the channel. Not just CPQ, but a lot of unbranded box makers have more inventory as the top 4 gain share, and the weak sisters lose share and are stuck with more inventory. Intel thought this correction would be over in the 4Q, then came CPQ's announcement in 1Q.

IMHO it could take 'til the 2nd half before lower inventory levels are reached and Intel can start posting gains over last year.

Also, don't you think that the closer we get to '99, the more companies will have to solve their Y2K problems with new hardware 'cause they ran out of time to do a software fix?
