It does get better past the middle of the movie when the two sisters begin to interact and the family dynamics are somewhat clarified. I know what you mean in the earlier part of the movie. Read the book and the movie will make more sense. Actually, I probably had more interest to begin with in the movie because I know the author of the book and admire her work. Myron
