Well. I bought Starcraft, played it last night.
Lots of people on the net servers. LOTS.
Excellent multiplayer support. Built in ladder ranking system. Good tutorial single-player campaigns that teach you the game (if you're new to RTS.)
And yet, I would say that BZ is a superior product, in concept and in play, to SC. SC does nothing new, just old things well. But ... AOE and DR do them well too, and some things better than SC. It just goes to show the importance of (a) strong Net support, which BZ doesn't have, and (b) expectations.
I'm unloading my ATVI first thing Monday. At the store, SC took up TWO ENTIRE SHELVES of the "new release" section, and the salespeople said it was selling briskly. In contrast, there were exactly two (2) copies of BZ relegated to a corner, and the salespeople said it wasn't selling well.
It's also odd that BZ cost $10 more. Not a good move.
