MFD: good post. The most likely scenarios for the future in comms will take a while to unfold, but the problems are being approached from many different perspectives. Some of them involve all the copper cable that has been laid for decades (tremendous presence). Take a look at xDSL (ADSL, SDSL, etc.) over twisted-pair copper: currently trans at 1.5Meg per second, expanding to 5meg (way beyond existing 56k modems). It certainly doesn't do away with fiberoptic and satellite options, but it does mean that people haven't written off their tremendous investments in copper, yet. In many instances, I believe it will complement the others. You will find some good (mature, substantive) discussion on SI threads such as AWARE, INC and PairGain Technologies. Regards, SapperJack
