Bernie,
How do we know that a U. of Chicago man would have received a sufficient education to inform him against making reckless, unprovable accusations? Kindly demonstrate for the edification of the threadsters how you justify that conclusion. Please provide evidence that this education is provided in the required curriculum for a U. of Chicago man (by which, I take it, you mean men who receive degrees from the University of Chicago). Please provide evidence that this education is sufficient for the purpose that you cite. Please show us how it follows that as a result of receiving this education "He would have sufficient evidence to corroborate any accusations he would make.", or on what other basis we would presume this to be the case (unless you intended for that statement to stand as a separate, unsupported assertion of an individual supposition). Also, since Michael, if indeed he is a U. of Chicago man, will, by your own assertions, have sufficient evidence to corroborate his accusations, and since, by your own account, he has accused you of making fun of women all the time, it seems to me that either: (a) you do, in fact, make fun of women all the time; (b) Michael is not a U. of Chicago man; (c) Michael is a U. of Chicago man, but acting in an manner that is uncharacteristic of one; (d) our knowledge about the U. of Chicago man, as you have expressed it, is faulty; or (e) you are simply wasting the Ligand thread's time, and your own considerable talent and abilities, with a lot of really dreary stuff (a dim possibility - added merely for completeness sake).
I do not find any of these possibilities very attractive. Perhaps my reasoning is at fault. Hopefully, Ligand will indeed break out this week and we can all turn our attention to happier matters, like figuring out why the 1999 estimate should be .85/share instead of .84/share.
