Good news today in general for Tamoxifen: Drug May Prevent Breast Cancer PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A drug used for years to treat breast cancer patients has been shown to prevent the disease from even occurring, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in today's editions, citing a study. The drug tamoxifen cut cancer rates by nearly half among women who were considered at risk of getting the disease, according to a six-year study by the National Cancer Institute, a federal agency that coordinates the nation's cancer programs. The institute recently mailed letters announcing the breakthrough to the 13,000 women in the U.S. and Canada who participated in the study, the newspaper reported. The results of the study will be made public Wednesday. __________________________ PARS does a tamoxifen analog that has certain advantages over the parent compound. Maybe our market will be bigger if tamoxifen is now actually a prophylactic for breast cancer. Comments, anyone?
