Nice display of stream-of-consciousness literary talent, Marty. And thanks, too, for the inside scoop on Digital River.
Rather than DocStone's challenge to the thread, here's mine: How many people have visited a website, wanted to enter for whatever reason, was asked to provide registration information and a credit card number, and then immediately elected to pass because you are (1) sick and tired of registering itself; (2) leery of giving credit information to yet another unknown quantity; and (3) not eager to be put on another's marketing list sold to who knows who for who knows how much?
If I give this info to someone (and I mean -one), such as Microsoft Network or, in our case WAVX, and they assure me the information will not be given to others or, of course, misused, I have a lot of confidence because there is too much risk of detection for a large, central player to not honor its promises (and I can easily track misuse of the card). That is going to be the beauty of the Wave system--register once to one accountable entity, then go anywhere you want on the net or to CD/DVD rental outlets and use one form of payment.
