If RFP for JPC contract was done now Westell would have won....They were runner up to Alcatel. Many things have changed since that award ...and remember all these contracts are up for grabs until meaningful deployment is a reality...GTE Ilec's soon to happen Orctf win will prove to the industry and maybe the street(if they can read between the BS.) GTE does not intend to put their money were their press releases have been. Orctf's adsl concentrator solution will be a techno path for quasi-deployment. Westell has been positioning their company to service customers for wide scale system deployment needs..Hence, if GTE Ilec intends to only service a 1000 or so customers by 1998 y/e than Westell is better with the Clec side which seems much more focused on an attepmt to make money...Remember analyst know GTE has gone with Orctf yet they all dropped their eps estimated 30-40 cps this week...WHY..Because they know the size of deployment will not be meaningful and that Orctf won the contract on a sub-profitable price per line. Westell is better off alocating company resouces to their customers that are truly serious(BEL) and (LU).IMHO the following will begin to effect Westell's stock price movement. 1.The market determines GTE is not for real in ADSL without DSLAM contracts.2.If this thread had waited till the chips were ready you could have saved yourself big $$$---TI and MOT ready to go in next 30-60 days.3.Westell's DSLAM product announcement.4.BT's interest in BA and BA's interest in Westell as partner, investment or subsidary.4.LU decides they better get even closer to Westell before JPC decides to go shopping again...since Alcatel's in trouble with delivering.5. The market truly realizes the big customers will go to the vendors that can not only supply chips but have the consulting talent to make the big picture work....sorry so long .
