It's a mistake to assume that VRD requires glasses or some other form of head mounted device. VRD is a projection system. Its output is scanned light, generally laid down as a raster image (i.e. a matrix of light pixels).

It so happens that MVIS's strategy is to concentrate for now on head mounted systems that project visible light onto the retina of the eye in a controlled raster that is refreshed at the same rate as a conventional CRT.

But there are plenty of other applications. Some medical applications might not use a raster, or pixelated image, but rather scan an analog signal for higher fidelity. Some applications might not use visible light but operate off some other part of the spectrum. MVIS might be able to develop instrumentation displays that use the VRD scanner to project onto a screen. Also, the scanner could be used to collect a signal as well as to output one. This is an extremely versatile technology.
