Thread, Intel made a smart move buying a ton of USWEB stock prior to the IPO. Their stock price has nearly tripled in less than 5 months. The other major leader in Web Development recently went public by merging with REGI, Neoglyphics.

I don't think that Intel is actually buying these companies as stock investments, but rather as technology investments. Intel's rather modest (to them) cash provides much needed capital for these companies to develop new applications that will drive the need for faster processors.

Intel would love to see higher bandwidth internet connections carrying more and more graphics information as this will cause the CPU instead of the internet connection to be the bottleneck, meaning more upgrades and more money for Intel (and in my pocket, too :). In USWeb's case it would be new internet connections in every place of business. Realistically, each connection would be via an Intel-based computer of some sort.
