Generally some of the most profitable deals recently have been service sector/media/telecoms/financial. Especially with IPOs and other floats. The float of Ten Network (TV) seems to be 10 times oversubscribed. The existing shares are trading at $A2.70 or so while the offer price was $A2.15. I put in an application and am now wondering whether I'll get anything. We'll find out later this week.

Other success stories in recent years have been bank stocks and News Corporation.

My point is that thinking of Australia as a resource based economy and looking for mining stocks would overlook the best stocks on offer.

At least I'm here in Australia....
