Kushner-Locke completes production on $6.25 million package of five feature-length live-action family films for Paramount Home Video

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 1996--The Kushner-Locke Co. (NASDAQ/NNM:KLOC) has completed production on the first five of up to 10 new made-for-video family films to be produced by the company under an agreement with Paramount Home Video, it was announced Tuesday by Kushner-Locke co-chairmen Peter Locke and Donald Kushner.

The five feature-length films have a combined budget of $6.25 million.

The five new films will be distributed on home video in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand by Paramount. Kushner-Locke retains all other rights worldwide, and will distribute the titles as part of its Magic Adventures family films package.

All of the feature-length live action productions are in the fantasy/adventure genre and were conceived to spark the imagination and transport viewers to mysterious, far-away places.

The five new films include, "Johnny Mysto: Boy Wizard," the story of a boy from Los Angeles who dreams of being the world's greatest magician. He gets more than he wishes for, however, when a magic ring he's given causes his brother to disappear. The search to find him takes Johnny back in time 1,200 years to King Arthur's England. "Johnny Mysto: Boy Wizard" is written by Benjamin Carr, produced by Mark Headley and directed by Jeff Burr.

"The Midas Touch" is about a down-and-out boy for whom nothing seems to go right. That is until his wish to become King Midas is suddenly granted. But he finds that all his new found wealth brings with it some unexpected problems. "The Midas Touch" is written by Keith Estrada and Peter Fedorenko, produced by Mark Headley and directed by Peter Manoogian.

"Little Ghost" is the story of Egon, who goes to a haunted castle-like villa in Italy with his famous movie star mother and her selfish producer boyfriend. Mother's next movie will film there and there will be little time for Egon.

There's a fun turn of events when Egon meets a beautiful ghost girl whose magical powers come in handy for creating more than a little mischief for mom and her not-so-likable beau. "Little Ghost" is written by Timothy Michaels, produced by Mark Headley and directed by Linda Shayne.

"Genie" is about Simon, a 13-year-old dweeb who knows everything except how to make friends. Then he meets a U.S. National Security Agent who has in his possession a magic lamp from the pyramids of Egypt. A real live Genie appears, but with his powers a bit rusty, the Genie gets Simon into some unexpected trouble. "Genie" is written and directed by Michael Davis and produced by Mark Headley.

The fifth film is "Dragonworld II," an exciting, magical modern day adventure set in Scotland, which finds Johnny McGowan and his playmate, a young dragon named Yowler, matching wits with a fearsome, evil Dark Knight accidentally released from centuries of imprisonment by a magic spell gone awry. "Dragonworld II" is written and directed by Ted Nicalou and produced by Roberto Bernacchi.

The Kushner-Locke Co. is a leading independent entertainment company engaged in the development, production and distribution of television programming and the development and production of feature films for theatrical release and direct release to home video and cable.
