HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998-- Nokia has been awarded a contract of approximately
USD 130 million by the Henan Post and Telecommunications Administration (PTA), China. With this fourth
expansion, Nokia will continue as the main supplier for the Henan PTA GSM network. Deliveries will begin
immediately and the network expansion will be launched in early 1999.
Nokia will supply all the mobile switching centres for the Henan PTA network as well as home location registers
and base station systems including base station controllers, base stations and a network management system.
Additionally, to meet the increasing demand for wireless data services, the Henan PTA will deploy Nokia's
Chinese Short Message Service Centre. Nokia will also provide Henan PTA with extensive customer services,
including implementation, network productivity and customer training.

In terms of population, Henan is the largest province in China. The average monthly growth of subscribers in the
Henan PTA network is more than 30,000 with total subscribers numbering well over half a million. With Nokia's
expansion, the Henan PTA network will provide capacity for more than 2 million subscribers.
