<<April 6, 1998--DiviCom Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE), a leading provider of compression systems for digital television, today announced that KOMO TV in Seattle has installed the new DiviCom MediaView MV40 for digital broadcasts. The MediaView MV40 is a standard-definition (SD) encoder designed to offer television service providers high quality pictures at efficient bit rates. KOMO first approached DiviCom in mid-March, and within a few short weeks, successfully transmitted digital programming on April 2, 1998.
In January 1997, KOMO became the first commercial broadcast station on the West Coast to experimentally transmit digital high-definition television (HDTV) and the third station in the country to launch digital HDTV transmission. April 2, 1998 marked the beginning of operation on the channel assigned for regular DTV service.
"We're thrilled to have successfully transmitted DTV so quickly," said KOMO TV's Senior VP and General Manager Dick Warsinske. "DiviCom delivered and installed the system in a matter of weeks. They were really responsive."
"Not all encoders are created equal," said Don Wilkinson, vice president of engineering of Fisher Broadcasting Inc. "The MV40 really stands apart as a high performance, flexible solution for DTV." >> |
