I had dinner with a friend of mine on Saturday - he works for a reseller of BAY products. He felt that BAY's products were selling well through the end of March. As is typical in most tech industries, he said that BAY offered attractive one time discounts to close deals before the end of the qtr, but was pulling those discounts after the qtr ended.

He will be attending a conference in San Francisco this weekend put on by BAY for its resellers - thought House would be there. I should be able to get some more insight then - I don't like to "use" the friend as an info source so I don't pry him for specifics. His general sentiment is usually pretty good. Unfortunately I hadn't got his opinion on this qtr before the warning.....

He said that BAY can compete with CSCO in most markets, but did add that some of CSCO's bigger customers were blind and would just take what CSCO told them they should - mentioned the "can't get fired for buying CSCO mentality".

When asked about the Accelar, he support the fact that its a backbone product and that companies are very sensitive about their info backbones. The ones he's placed have been well received though.

Anyway, some random thoughts.....
