Las Vegas Convention Center

Brocade Communications Systems Inc. and MountainGate Monday announced an agreement for MountainGate to integrate Brocade's SilkWorm switch with its new CentraVision MPIRE and CentraVision File System (CVFS) Fibre Channel network and storage solutions.

MountainGate's new CVFS provides editors concurrent access to digital video files stored on the network, saving time in the editing process in addition to providing implicit data conversion and bandwidth management of the network.

Additionally, editors can access digital files captured by the CentraVision MPIRE as the material is recorded frame by frame. Individual frames can be accessed as soon as they are recorded. By implementing Brocade's SilkWorm switch, MountainGate can offer its customers increased reliability and management through the ability to isolate problems on workstations or links that may go down, and to provide critical data about network traffic.

The SilkWorm switch reduces occurrences and the impact of LIP (Loop Initialization Process) resets in an arbitrated loop configuration by isolating that single port, leaving all other Fabric ports uninterrupted.

In addition, with Brocade's switch, MountainGate can offer its customers in the post-production and broadcast industries increased performance by providing each editing station its own gigabit per second bandwidth access to shared network files.

"Brocade's SilkWorm switch provides an essential component to our new MPIRE and File System solutions," said Glenn Williamson, president for MountainGate. "Not only is the switch extremely easy to configure and manage, but enables us to provide our customers with a flexible solution that can be expanded as necessary."

"The almost instantaneous access to image data provided by MountainGate's new CentraVision solutions, in combination with Brocade's gigabit Fibre Channel Fabric, will provide an incredible performance and availability boost for MountainGate's customers in post-production and broadcast facilities," said Bruce Bergman, president and chief executive officer for Brocade. "We are excited to be working with MountainGate as they continue to provide their customers with faster access for digital video applications, greater amounts of storage and better management."
