LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998 --
Companies to Integrate Product Directions to Address Rapidly
Growing Network Data Access Market
Come see a demonstration of DataDirect's new Concurrent Data Network Architecture (CDNA), including Brocade's SilkWorm switch, at NAB, April 6-9 in Las Vegas, in DataDirect's booth No. 3462 in the Sands Convention Center
DataDirect Networks Inc. (formerly MegaDrive Systems), leading the industry into the era of high-performance network data access for image-intensive applications, and Brocade Communications Systems Inc., the industry's leading supplier of Fibre Channel switch Fabrics, Monday announced an agreement outlining the formation of a strategic relationship.
Within this agreement, DataDirect Networks will fully integrate Brocade's SilkWorm Fibre Channel switch with its network data access solutions.
Additionally, DataDirect and Brocade will draw upon each other's expertise in the Fibre Channel industry for product, software service and support development. This includes collaboration on product and service offerings that deliver fully integrated network data access solutions to customers for the "third wave" of network computing.
This relationship parallels both companies' focus on creating and enabling Server-Storage Area Networks (SANs) and together, they will provide the "backbone" of the SAN in high-performance, image-intensive computing environments. DataDirect Networks' innovations provide network storage solutions to 1,000's of Fibre Channel sites with high performance networking and data access demands.
Additionally, the image-intensive computing community will benefit from completely integrated systems and the full-scale expertise that ranges from the physical network to fully integrated storage solutions supporting sophisticated end-users.
"DataDirect Networks has been a leading provider of high speed image-based networking solutions for many years," stated Alex Bouzari, president and co-chairman of DataDirect Networks. "By teaming up with fine companies like Brocade, DataDirect Networks is able to greatly improve our customers' productivity and offer them better, faster and more cost effective solutions.
"Together, DataDirect Networks and Brocade will develop best-of-breed, standards-based products, which meet and exceed the demands of our customers' ever-changing computing environments. This is an integral part of our long term vision to lead the third wave of network computing."
Together, DataDirect Networks and Brocade will design, create and offer standards-based products which allow their customers to expand and upgrade systems with the emerging technologies demanded by their ever-changing environments. The relationship strengthens DataDirect Networks position in taking a leadership role in the market for high-performance, network data access solutions, an emerging market that analysts have predicted will grow to $10 Billion by the year 2001.
"We are very excited about securing strategic relationships with companies like DataDirect Networks," said Bruce Bergman, president and CEO for Brocade. "To drive the new evolution in networking computing and break the logjam of today's server-to-server and server-to-storage transfers, new networking software and high-speed networking hardware is required. Brocade designed the SilkWorm switch and its related Fabric management services for full integration into software networking solutions like DataDirect Network's Concurrent Data Network Architecture (CDNA).
"We believe that this relationship and subsequent solutions will help to drive the next wave of network computing and fulfill the promise of Fibre Channel."
DataDirect Networks is bringing to market the Third Wave of networking technology. The First Wave was elementary networking of computers. The Second Wave used the Network File System (NFS) in a Network Attached Storage model. Neither approach satisfactorily handles the needs of today's high performance, image-based networks.
Now, DataDirect is introducing the Third Wave of network data access that will replace NFS with a revolutionary, new networking architecture enabling Storage Area Networks (SANs).
