<<Mathew, Yes, belief in randomness is mysticism. Mysticism is belief grounded in fantasy. "Randomness", as Delbert points out, is lack of knowledge, not true randomness.>>
Maurice, do not confuse the mighty and esteemed Galt with some character named Matthew. John Galt does not subscribe to any single formulated philosophy that is not his own. Objectivism, though, does have its' merits more than any other. John Galt is an original thinker and his NEW philosophy is in it's developmental stage.
Do not deny what exists. Randomness exists! If you cannot show John Galt that all systems are predictable and ordered, then you must ACCEPT what is the REALITY OF THE DAY. If you DENY this REALITY, it is you that imagines. It is you who place order where order does not exist. YOU, SIR, ARE THE MYSTIC! The burden of proof is on you to reveal this order. To argue that randomness DOES NOT EXIST because of our 'lack of knowledge' is the same as arguing GOD EXISTS because of our 'lack of knowledge'. Let's get logical, Maurice.
John Galt does see order and predictably as well as 'randomness' as essential components to a 'changing universe'. Precisely where randomness and order part is the quest for modern science. He encourages you in your quest to reveal order in the universe, but do not infuse the universe with your mystical order where order does not exist.
<<Processes are not random, they trundle along their inevitable paths. This is why science is able to make increasingly accurate predictions.>>
It is precisely this position, Maurice, why the sanctity of science is threatened now from moronic social and psychology predictability studies to creationist theories.
Determinism, Maurice, is anti-volitional. Your premise that volition is a 'condition of a lack of knowledge' is heresy to a rational mind. Go to your cave, Maurice. You do not know science. |
