I did exactly the same thing as a child! I pronounced it "mize-ld" -- and everybody laughed at me! As an adult, I still mispronounce words that I have only seen on the written page, but never heard in real life.

I also, or so I am told, mispronounce some common words. For example, poem: I say "p-oh-m." No amount of correction can make me change the way I pronounce it. (The "right way" sounds downright stupid to me.) Is that a "regionalism," or simply an ingrained bad habit?
