Ascend Delivers Multiband MAX 6000 with MAXDAX
Software Increases Flexibility and Efficiencies for WAN Management
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--Ascend Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASND - news) today announced the immediate availability of Multiband MAX 6000, the newest member of the Multiband family of bandwidth-on-demand controllers. Bundled at no additional cost with the MAXDAX, a software feature that delivers sophisticated cross-connection capabilities, allowing access to and from the public network from all points on a private network. The MAXDAX intelligent cross-connection function gives customers flexible and efficient use and management of the WAN environment.
The Multiband MAX family is a group of specially configured, cost-effective MAX products with inverse multiplexing and WAN network features optimized for videoconferencing and backup/overflow. The products enhance and extend current corporate backbone switched and leased networks by providing and managing bandwidth on demand for multiple applications. Multiband MAX products give companies an easy growth path to more robust remote networking applications with the addition of remote access options.
Multiband MAX 6000 is a chassis with six expansion slots, four T1 interfaces, a DB9 (RS232) console port interface and Ethernet interfaces (UTP, autosensing 10/100 Base-T interface). The base model offers a two-port inverse multiplexing module installed with all dialing and inverse multiplexing features enabled. Other products in the Multiband MAX family include the Multiband MAX 1800, Multiband MAX 2000, Multiband MAX 4002 and Multiband MAX 4004. All Multiband MAX products are bundled with software designed for the Multimedia Product Group environment and enhanced management features supporting Telnet, SNMP and NavisAccess.
MAXDAX Delivers Dynamic Switch Circuit Routing
Multiband MAX 6000 with MAXDAX functionality opens up interconnection possibilities on private enterprise networks. MAXDAX software cross-connects videoconference, voice and data traffic between T1 lines, or between T1 lines and ISDN PRIs (primary rate interface). These smart connections give users on multiple private networks access to each other as well as access to and from the public network.
MAXDAX delivers the ability to fully utilize a private to public network combination. With MAXDAX, a MAX or Multiband MAX can make routing decisions based on predefined parameters. MAXDAX determines where an incoming call is going and consigns it to the most economical carrier. MAXDAX also makes routing decisions based on the service type of a call.
''The ability to intelligently manage connections and bandwidth is critical for enterprises, ISPs or any organization with an extended private network,'' said Roger Boyce, Vice President/General Manager, Enterprise Access Division for Ascend. ''We understand those customer needs and continue to deliver new capabilities, like MAXDAX, to maximize the network.''
By adding dynamic cross-connection ability, MAXDAX gives the MAX versatility unmatched by any product in their class. MAXDAX is also available as an option on Ascend?s MAX 4000/6000. MAXDAX features include:
Enables modem, fax and voice calls to connect automatically to the local PBX, or another PBX at a downstream MAX or Multiband MAX, or to the local modem for Internet/intranet data; Routes digital calls to any application port on any MAX or Multiband MAX; Receives inverse multiplexed videoconference calls from the public network and routes them to the appropriate location on the private network; Allows the switched data network to be used for backup and recovery during WAN packet data network failure; and Obviates need for expensive PBX upgrades by performing advanced PBX interconnection tasks.
Availability and Pricing
First domestic and international customer shipments will begin on May 1, 1998. Multiband MAX 6000 price is $14,500. The Remote Access Upgrade for Multiband MAX 6000 is $6,290. Cost to upgrade to the MAXDAX option for Multiband MAX 4000 series, MAX 4000 series, and MAX 6000 is $3,000.
