Dave, >>"I was under the impression that UNIX would run on IA. Is that not the case as implied here?"<<

UNIX, Windows NT, Sun Solaris, SCO UNIX, and practically everything modern except System 390 (MVS) will run on the 64 bit Merced, aka IA-64. Deschutes precedes Merced, and is 32 bit and Pentium II based. It won't run native UNIX, rather it will run Windows 95, 98, NT, etc. What I meant was that Deschutes should cause more and more companies to ditch (gradually) UNIX and migrate to Windows NT, it will be that fast, SMPable to at least 8-way, etc.

Regards,

Tony
