Aware, Inc. Wins Product of the Year Award for DSL Lite Technology

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ:AWRE), a worldwide leader in xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology, has received a "Product of the Year Award" for its DSL Lite technology from the Massachusetts Telecommunications Council.

Selected by industry popular vote, Aware's DSL Lite product was chosen based on two key criteria: innovation and commitment to purpose, both of which fuel the development of the telecommunications industry.

Aware's ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology enables users to simultaneously send or receive data over existing copper telephone lines 200 times faster than what is possible with a 28.8 kbps modem without interruption to normal telephone service.

DSL Lite brings the advantages of ADSL to consumers without requiring the installation of a special device known as a splitter. This "splitterless" technology is up to 52 times faster than today's 28.8 kpbs modems. DSL Lite, targeted for retail availability later this year, will give consumers ultrafast Internet service with the use of an ordinary modem.

"It is an honor to have DSL Lite named 'Product of the Year' by the Massachusetts Telecommunications Council. This award is a testament to our pioneering efforts to maximize the potential of the copper phone wire," said James C. Bender, president and chief executive officer of Aware.
