Dwight, when you talk about evil and when I do, I suspect we have very different lists of what is evil and what is not. What you have is a belief system, and I am sincerely glad that gives you comfort. I have a different belief system, and I believe I live a life that is as moral and ethical as yours. I do not believe either belief system is superior. I think people get into a lot of trouble when they believe they know The Truth. There is no one truth.
When you quote Bible verses to me, they have very little meaning. Only some Christians believe in a strict interpretation of the Bible, and even they fight about what the verses mean. Certainly, there are as many interpretations of the Bible as there are people reading it, because it is a subjective, not objective, reality. The more modern and tolerant Christians who have taken the essence of Christ's loving and accepting spirit and evolved as time has passed and more is known about the universe are the ones who, to me, are living in His image. But that is simply my belief system, just as it is simply your belief system which interprets the Bible in a different way. |
