Brian, Your sentiments are are expressed in different words by Andy Grove in the latest issue of Business Week. "There's an enormous temptation to take the events of a quarter and extrapolate them. But it's wrong when a couple of speed bumps in the road lead you to question the essentials." (Business Week page 32)

What we have read on this thread for the past six weeks is a lot of baseless extrapolation of how bad things are going to be for the rest of the year.

Its the fashion right now for companies to announce how poor the outlook is for the rest of the year and how S.E.A. is impacting them more that they anticipated.

But at the same time these postponed plants and expansions are being kept current and updated because all of these plans will have to go foreward or they (the companies) will become a historical footnote
in the evolution of technology.

Once someone announces some sort of expansion are the rest will be dusting off their expansion plans and they will start announcing how they plan to cope with the near term future. Its the group psychology thing. It does impact our investments to the negative for now , but don't be blindsided by groupthink.

In the meantime I suggest some trading with part of any AMAT portfolio. I have sells of some of my AMAT postion at 38 3/4/. Withe intention of buying back in at 37. JMO.... Jerome
